From the Arcane Secrets of the Tijani Path

 

Concealness of Secrets 

The author of Kitab al-Ibriz min Kalam Sayyidi Abdelaziz, Sidi Ahmed ibn al-Mubarik said, "I heard our Shaykh (the Grand Qutb Sidi Abdellaziz Dabbagh al-Fasi, d. 1132/1717), say—God be pleased with him: 'The day I entered the Diwan, Sidi Ahmed b. Abdellah, and the other people of the Diwan as well, only spoke of one thing that day. They admonished me and urged me to keep the secret concealed. And al-Ghawt Sidi Ahmed b. Abdellah al-Misri ordered everyone who had a story dealing with this subject to recount it. Thus they recounted some two hundred stories.' I heard eight of them from our Shaykh—God be pleased with him!..[More] 

The Allama Shaykh Sidi Ahmed Skirej (may Allah be pleased with him), 

 

“Our Tijani Path is an invocation in reality (dhikr ‘ala al-‘haqiqa). And its litanies becomes obligatory, until death, the time one swears allegiance to the Tijani Path. And its conditions are numerous, notably, observance of the daily ritual prayers at their prescribed times, and non-visitation of saints (awliya) save the companions of Sidi Ahmed Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) and the companions of the Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him). And who takes the oath of the Tijani Path and embraces another Sufi path later on should be scared for himself.” 

According to the Baraka of the Age, al-Allama, Sharif, Sidi Mohammed Radi Gannun al-Idrissi al-Hassani (may Allah outstay his lifetime and be satisfied with him),  

"The Tijaniya order is twofold: (1) The Tariqa (Path), and, (2) The Asrar (Arcane Secrets). The Tariqa-element is based on three corners: (a) the Wird, (b) the Wadhifa, and (c) the Haylala of Friday. Performance of the daily five obligatory rituals, 24/7 visualization of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him and his family), extremism in the recitation of the Salat al-Fatih prayer and Jawahir al-Maani, hagiographication of the life and career of Sidna Shaykh Tijani (may Allah sanctify his secret) and his companions, Ahl al-Bayt’s love and praise and veneration, lifetime devotion to the service of the order, visitation of the Zawiya al-Kubra, obedience to the order's caliphs and muqaddams, respect and veneration of the other Sufi orders and masters, defense of the order in word and deed when needed, understanding of the order's jurisprudence and Sidna Shaykh’s ranks of Qutbaniya and Khatmiya and Katmiya and perception of the known bounties and merits of his companions can be seen as complementary to the threefold corners mentioned above as they are from the conditions of the order. The Asrar-element however concerns the invocation of the prayers and supplications and names. Once the latter are discovered the disciple would start to read them under the authorisation and supervision of a sound Muqaddam. From these the Concealed Greatest Name, Surat al-Fatiha and Salat al-Fatih with the known intention, Idrissid Names, Hizb Sayfi, Hizb al-Bahr, Dalail al-Khayrat, “Salat al-Ghaybiya fi al-Haqiqa al-Ahmediya” (The Divine Prayer in the Ahmedi Reality), “Yaqutat al-Haqaiq fi-Ta’ariif bi-Haqiqat Sayyid al-Khalaiq” (The Jewel of Realities in the Definition of the Reality and the Master of Mankind) exemplify. The Awfaq and Talasim and Raml and ‘Asqarat al-Asame and Asrar al-‘Huruf have nothing to do with the nature of Tijanidom. They are rather from Sufism. Sad he who spends 90 per cent of his time on the Asrar and 10 per cent on the Tariqa! In the Jawahir al-Maani , the Holy Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) warns those who concentrate on the Greatest Name on the account of the Quran and Prayers upon Him (peace and blessing be upon him).  

Yes. Chapter Four of "Jawahir al-Maani wa-Bulugh al-Amani fi Fayd Shaykh Sidi Abil Abbas at-Tijani” (Gems of Indications and Attainment of Aspirations in the Overflowings of Sidi Abil Abbas Tijani) of the Holy Liaison and Noble Khalifa Sidi Abul Hassan Ali Harazem Berrada al-Fasi (d. 1212/1797) presents the litanies and prayers and supplications of Sidna Shaykh Abil Abbas Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) in explicit terms. Opening and arrival to the Divine Presence however is only reached through the obligatory litanies of the Tijani order; namely, the Wird, Wadhifa, and the Friday Haylala after the Asr Prayer. The prayers of Salat al-Fatih, “Jawharat al-Kamal fi Mad’hi Sayyid Rijal” (The Jewel of Excellence in the Praise of the Chieftain of Men), “Salat al-Ghaybiya fi al-Haqiqa al-Ahmediya” (The Divine Prayer in the Ahmedi Reality), and “Yaqutat al-Haqaiq fi-Ta’ariif bi-Haqiqat Sayyid al-Khalaiq” (The Jewel of Realities in the Definition of the Reality and the Master of Mankind) are instrumental to mystical illumination. A Moroccan Sufi proverb says: "The ways to God are as numerous as the souls of men."

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم و صلى الله على سيدنا محمد الفاتح الخاتم و على آله وصحبه. من رسائل سيدنا رضي الله عنه للسلطان الهمام، حامل ألوية الإسلام، عالم السلاطين، و كهف الضعفاء و المساكين، من لبس حلة القبول في الظاهر و في الباطن حلية العرفان، أبو الربيع مولانا سليمان قدس الله روحه في الجنان: فالذي أوصيك به كل الوصية، بل هي واجبة من خالفها هلك، و هو الكتم على ما ذكرناه لك قبل، ثم الكتم مطلقا من غير استثناء. فالأسرار قبورها صدور الأحرار. و الأسرار قبورها صدور الأخيار. و الأسرار قبورها صدور الكبار.” و قال الشيخ سيدي أحمد زروق رضي الله عنه علوم الأسرار من الحروف و الأسماء و غيرها هي علوم و هو فتح لم يتكلم فيها أهلها إلا إعانة لمن له فتح و إفادة لمن له حقيقة. يقول العلامة سيدي أحمد بن العياشي سكيرج رضي الله عنه: "لكن لما كان العلم يموت بموت أهله إن لم يدوَّن دوَّنوا علمهم و رمزوه غيرة على أسرار المولى أن تذاع بين من لا يكون لها أهلا ثم إن الخواص و أسرارها لا يتمكن منها أحد من خلق الله إلا أحد رجلين إما رجل ظفر بالولاية و إما رجل جعل أكثر أوقاته في ذكر الله و في صحة التوجه إليه سبحانه و تعالى و في الصلاة على نبيه صلى الله عليه و سلم طلبا لوجه الله الكريم لا لغرض غير ذلك و داوم على هذا المنوال وصان لسانه عن الأقاويل التي لا ترتضى شرعا كالغيبة و النميمة والكذب و السخرية و سائر ما لا يرتضى، وصان قلبه عما لا يرضي الله كالكبر و الحسد و ظلم الناس و البغض بغير أمر شرعي إلى غير ذلك و هو في هذا كله قائم لله تعالى، فهذا هو الذي لعله يدرك بعض أسرار الخواص و من سوى هذين لا يفيده التعلق بالخواص إلا التعب. قال الشيخ أبو عبدالله محمد بن حنيف الشيرازي نمت بعد موت الحلاج ليلة كأن القيامة قد قامت و الناس في الحساب و أنا أقول إلهي إن الحلاج ولي من أوليائك سلطت عليه خلقك فنوديت من الجو: علَّمتُه سرا من أسراري فباح به بين خلقي فسلطت عليه خلقي. إهـ.. و ذلك كله غيرة على الأسرار من أن تقع في يد الأشرار و لا أحد أغير من الله و كل عبد صالح تابع لمولاه . ذكر العلامة سيدي أحمد بن العياشي سكيرج رضي الله عنه في كتابه كشف الحجاب: و كان بعض أكابر الأصحاب ممن يحصل انبساطه معهم يلقبون السيد حمادي الصفار ( بالفار ). و سبب لقبه بذلك ما بلغني عنه أنه أتى يوما إلى زيارة سيدنا رضي الله عنه، و استأذن في الدخول عليه، كما هي عادته رضي الله عنه في كل من يريد الإجتماع به. فقال الذي استأذن عليه : يا سيدي هذا السيد حماده الصفار. و كان عند الشيخ رضي الله عنه جماعة من أصحابه، فرفع الشيخ رضي الله عنه رأسه إليه، و قال له « ءا ءا إلفار ». فقيل للشيخ رضي الله عنه : هذا فلان. فأذن له في الدخول. ثم سار الإخوان يقولون : قد لقبه الشيخ بالفار.و قد بلغني عن الولي الصالح سيدي العربي بن السائح رضي الله عنه أنه كان يقول عند حكايته لهذه القضية : حدثني بعض من حضر عند الشيخ رضي الله عنه في ذلك الوقت، أن الشيخ رضي الله عنه لم يقل فيه ذلك على جهة ما إلا أنه لم يسمع اسمه أولا و ثانيا، قال : و على كل حال فأفهام العارفين رضي الله عنهم، و وقائعهم، و ما يطرأ من أقوالهم و أفعالهم و لو نسيانا أو قلة سمع، مثل هذه القضية، فلا تخطئ موقع الإشارة منها. فإن هذا السيد رحمه الله، يعني صاحب الترجمة، كان كثير البحث عن الأسرار و المعارف، و الله أعلم

Therefore the cornerstone of Tijani praxis is the morning and noon recitation of the Mohammedian Wird that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) had himself assigned to Sidna Shaykh Tijani to initiate any seeker who asks for it and accepts to abide by its conditions;  100 of Astaghfirou Allah" (I seek Allah’s forgiveness), 100 of prayers upon the Prophet with any version, preferably with the Salat al-Fatih prayer, and  100 of La-ilaha illa’Allah (There is no God but Allah). To these are added the daily Wadhifa and the Friday Haylala after the Asr Prayer. Sidna Shaykh Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) also recited Hizb Sayfi, Hizb al-Bahr, Al-Musabba'at al-'Ashr (The Ten sevens), al-Asmae al-Idrissiya, Dua “Ya man Adhara-l-Jamil”, the Istighfar attributed to Sidna al-Khadir, a collection of Quranic invocations complied by Sidi Abu Talib al-Makki (d. 386/996) but attributed to Sidna al-Khadir, the supplication of “O my Lord! Your absolution is bigger than my sins and I have more hope on Your Mercy than on my deeds,” the daily office of: “There is no divinity except Allah and Allah is the Greatest. There is no divinity except Allah; the Unique; He has no associate. There is no divinity except Allah, to whom belong the Kingdom and the Praise. There is no divinity except Allah and there are no Power and Strength but in Him, The Almighty, The Omnipresent,” the supplication of “Glory be to Allah, and all Praise is for Allah, and there is no God but Allah, and Allah is Great (may this prayer be equal to) Allah’s filling, quantity, and weight of knowledge”.  

The Asrar inherit secrets, endowments, cognition, and illuminations. They are very confidential that only an established caliph (master) or authorized muqaddam (intermediary) can permit their recital. The authority of the spiritual master is absolute. Sidna Shaykh Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) expected obedience from the followers of his caliphs and muqaddams. “You must obey the muqaddam who gave you the Wird in whatever he orders you,” said he as read in the Jawahir. According the Imam Sidi Mohammed ibn Sulayman al-Jazouli (d. 869/1454), “one must cleave to spiritual masters even if they are in Baghdad, for going to them brings illumination, mercy, and the secrets to hearts. The fully actualised master (Shaykh al-Wasil) has arrived at the station of direct perception (maqam al-mushahada) and has disappeared into the lights of perfections, such that he is concerned with nothing but the King of Truth. When he returns among humankind, he returns with illumination (anwar), knowledge ('ulum), and laws (ahkam). He who follows him is educated and inspired, and understands what those who are cut off from him will never understand." 

Shaykh Sidi Ibrahim Niass al-Kawlakhi, says in Ru’h al-Adab (Spirit of Good Morals) ,  

The most excellent Shaykh of all time in any respect is our leader al- Tijani, the possessor of great virtues.

    The intermediary and foundation of every scholar of divine knowledge, he is to them the flowing fountain and the sun.

And the best path (of Sufi order) by consensus is again his path without any dispute.

    And, it is impossible to combine its practice with any other (path of Sufi order), he is ruined (the one who combined it) alongside with the speaker of such (combination) on the Day of Judgment.

He has lied and fabricated against the Lord Majestic, I say (with emphasis), that this Wird is great.

    Among these litanies are: Hizb at-Tadaru’a, Salat al-Fatih, also Allahumma Alaika Fatih.

And such other (litanies) possessed by the great men, the People of this Tariqa, when you get their permissions.

    However, it is with great efforts that their secrets are obtained, not by laxity or by playing on the intelligence of men.

But rather by adhering to what they give firmly, and by following their instructions always.

    Don't prefer colleagues conversations, to sitting with him (your shaykh), oh the annihilated one.

If so, don't be desirous of obtaining secrets for secrets are not obtainable in public.

    But if you rather stick to him (your shaykh) always you could succeed from him in obtaining your requirement.

You could also gain from him by infection, and this, has been confirmed by the men (of knowledge), so watch out.

    Whosoever does not attain the knowledge of the Merciful his life has been in ruin for all time spent. 

 N.B: The Asrar are hundreds of thousands in number and they are designed for all kinds of seekers. However, they are inititaed by sound Muqaddams under certain circumstances. Great Asrar, like the Ism al-Adham (Greatest Name), are only initiated by the Qutb al-Aqtab himself. Sidna Shaykh Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him) said in Jawahir al-Maani: "The excellence attributed to the Greatest Name is peculiar to the version which is peculiar to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him), and no one except the comprehensive Pole (al-Qutb al-Jami’a) may reach it or authorize its teaching. As for the other versions of the Name, they carry half the reward of the preeminent form." He then went on to say (may Allah be pleased with him): "This great favor is for everyone who receives one of the versions of the Supreme Name through an authentic chain of transmission. As for someone who chances upon it in a book or something of the kind, and recites it without permission, its reward is ten good deeds per letter, no more than that." So. Beware! Beware! Beware from the businessmen of Asrar!!! Beware from famous “Muqaddams” who sell the Asrar informing people that Asrar and only Asrar approach people to God. Beware from their Fitna. And know that the Tariqa is threefold: The Wird, Wadhifa, and Haylala. And Asrar are supplied in the first place in closed doors for the people who deserve them. And sad he who thinks that one of the qualities and merits of the Tijani path is the attainment of the Ism al-Adham at ease. And we seek the refuge of Allah from the fools who use the Asrar for material gains and egoistic profits, and from those who use the Asrar to hurt their brethren, to say nothing of those who mix the Asrar with some sorts of magic and sorcery. By Allah, these people are not even Muslims, let alone be Sufis. Let alone be Tijanis. Wa La Hawla wa La Quwwata illa Billah al-Aliyy al-Adhim.  So, whoever adorns himself with these norms he subjects himself to dajal (mixing truthiness with falseness). A person has only himself to blame for mingling with this kind of people. He must renew his Tariqa and Wird from a sound Muqaddams. Sidna Shaykh Abil Abbas Tijani (may allah be pleased with him) said: “Allah is not worshipped for a precise need but for the fact that HE is a deserving God, because of HIS Divine Essence, HIS Character, HIS lofty and praiseworthy Qualities, HIS glorious Names, and it is in those that our noble adoration is based. In the same manner, one should not be with the Shaykh to get earthly goods but thanks to his alliance with him, the disciple can be drawn towards Allah’s alliance”. Sidi Mohammed al-Ghali (may Allah be well pleased with him) informs that Sidna Shaykh (may Allah be well pleased with him) said one day at his meeting: "If someone has loved me for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, let him love me. If someone has loved me for the sake of some personal interest, I swear by Allah—there is no God but He— I am a simple ordinary man and I own nothing at all."
