There was a secret reason why the Holy Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, was made the Seal of the Prophets, such that he appeared only after the prophets who were his precursors. Each of these received, in accordance with the places and circumstances of each manifestation, a revealed Law and taught to all beings the existence of the one God. “I have asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing be upon him, the following: 'My aim is to attain your love and Allah's, your eternal satisfaction with me and Allah's, your solicitude (i’atina’) towards me and Allah's.' He answered me in this meaning, peace and blessing be upon him: ‘All of these [things are given in full] in the litanies that I had given you!!'” (Shaykh Abil Abbas Tijani in 'Kitab Rawd al-Mu’hib al-Fani'). Since its establishment in the twelfth/eighteenth century, the Tijaniya Path has grown to be one of the largest and most widespread orders of Islam in the Maghreb and Africa. Pilgrims frequent its Master’s tomb, may Allah be pleased with him, in Fez, Morocco, on a regular basis.
